Ariel Pink and his trusty band Haunted Graffiti are busy putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited follow-up to 2010's critically lauded Before Today. Fans expecting a lo-fi, retro freak-folk record are going to be surprised, however, if his recent interview with Spin is any indication.
"There are definitely not any links to my lo-fi origins. It's so diverse but so different from anything I've done before," he told the magazine. "In a sense, it's really the record I wanted to make back when I made Before Today, but couldn't due to pressures and different factors. We had time to let our hair down and try new things."
The group is also slated to hit the road for a series of what Pink termed "more expensive bills" in larger venues than the group has traditionally played.
"I think all the hipsters who came to all of our shows as teenagers have grown up now," he says. "Hopefully they can afford it."
