Last year, we brought you the unlikely-sounding news that Smashing Pumpkins head honcho Billy Corgan was starting a professional wrestling company. Resistance Pro, the much-ballyhooed (in wrestling circles, at least) company has inked deals with several of wrestling's bigger names, and Corgan is now (you guessed it) plotting a reality show about it.
Corgan opened up about the show to the MLW radio network this week, while also mentioning (in passing) that the latest Pumpkins release, Oceania, is due in stores on June 9th.
"I'm doing a lot of behind the scenes stuff. We're trying to get a reality show made," Corgan said. "We just signed a deal with a big reality show producer. A guy with an incredible track record. We're in good hands."
"With a wrestling company, you don't have to manufacture reality. There's plenty of it to go around," he added, with a knowing laugh.
While Corgan didn't name check the big-time producer, he did manage to squeeze in a few David Foster Wallace-esque quotes about the social and economic influence of the pseudo-sport he's so passionate about.
"We believe that wrestling is fascinating on many many levels. Socially, politically, even economically," he continued. "The struggles independent wrestlers go through to try to find work. Those are real struggles that anybody can identify with. We want to show what goes on in a wrestling company behind the scenes."
In the meantime, let's all just watch the video for 1979 and hope for the best.
