The Flaming Lips always have a nice surprise for their fans on Record Store Day, but their latest offering is leaving more than a few people squeamish.
"The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends" will be a double-record, available exclusively on April 21. The record is reported to contain collaborations with a slew of unlikely partners, including Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Prefuse 73, Tame Impala, Jim James, Nick Cave, Lightning Bolt, Yoko Ono, Neon Indian, Erykah Badu, New Fumes and Coldplay.
Wait, that's not the weird part. Wayne Coyne told MTV News that a special edition of the record will feature the actual blood of the aforementioned collaborators.
“I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak,” Coyne said. “I’m going to try to put little bits of everybody’s blood in the middle of this record. Like a glass specimen thing.”
Coyne has reportedly already collected blood samples from Ke$ha, Neon Indian and Prefuse 73. While we at Music Forte can't really see Coldplay or Erykah Badu taking part, we're pretty sure Nick Cave and Yoko Ono will be on board. When asked who in God's name would be purchasing the special edition, Coyne was pragmatic.
“Interested rich Flaming Lips people,” he answered.
